Heavensward, the first major expansion for MMORPG

Final Fantasy XIV’s creators have worked hard to make sure new players feel welcomed and not overwhelmed by more difficult content. In response to lower-level players who are terested in completing story-focused missions than they are gleaning bragging rights and new gear, a new high-level raid dungeon has been added with two modes: story mode and hard mode. The colossal mechanical summon Alexander--half-fortress, half-robotic beast--will be added with Heavensward. Players will enter the colossus and fight the primal Alexander in this new multilevel raid. Along with the raid, Final Fantasy XIV will also be refreshing its loot system. More details on how will come soon.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launched in August 2013.

“I’ve been talking with [XV director Hajime] Tabata about it,” he said. “We’d love to do something together.”

Yoshida is hoping to keep pushing updates to Final Fantasy XIV for the next 10 years. For him, the 10-year mark signifies a place among “legendary” MMOs like World of Warcraft and Everquest. One decade of services means you have a strong player base and the funds to keep creating a world that your audience loves.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will get its first expansion, Heavensward, on June 23. But according to Yoshida, even with Heavensward on the horizon, the team is already hard at work on the second expansion.
